Once you have successfully secured admission or job in Ireland, you have to be conscious of various things after moving to Ireland. As most of you know, there is a huge housing crisis ongoing in Ireland at the moment, finding the accommodation should be your top priority. There are several groups on Facebook that you can join where people often advertise any vacancies in their house who are either leaving their accommodation and looking for replacements or are completely moving out of their house and are looking to sublet their houses. You can simply search for these groups on Facebook, for example, Indians in Ireland, Accommodation for Indians in Ireland, Rent in Dublin, etc.

Also, there are letting agencies that you can register your interest with and contact them via email to see if they are letting any properties. There are multiple websites that you can use for searching houses, the most popular being daft.ie. On Daft.ie, you can browse properties that suits your needs, location, budget, etc. The most common thing is to email/contact the person advertising the property on daft.it and arrange a viewing for the house. Don't lose hope if you are not receiving a reply back from them, persistence is key, so try and apply to as many places as you can on daily basis and give a small introduction of yourself in the application. Please bear in mind that time is of essence and it is important that you reach the viewing on time as there might be other potential tenants who come for viewing on the same time. Usually property management companies give a common time for viewing for multiple people, so you might see that there is a queue at the time of viewing.

Documents:

Keep all your documents ready, for example: Bank statements, Job offer letter/contract, last 3 Payslips, previous landlord references, etc.

These are the key documents that you should have handy so that there is no delay in securing your future place of accommodation. These documents are requested in order to check your financial health if you are able to meet the monthly rental expenses, and also previous landlord references help them in confirming they way you live and treat the house you live in.

Scams in Ireland for Accommodation:

Often people get desperate when they are not finding the accommodation and are running out of patience. There are multiple occasions where people will approach and say that they live in Spain/UK and are not able to show you the house in person but can courier you the keys once you have paid the rent and to gain your trust, they will say that they want to do transaction via Airbnb or booking.com so everything looks legitimate.
Please, DO NOT fall into this trap of transferring the money without physically meeting the person and viewing the house in person. Once you transfer the money, they disappear in the air and you have nowhere to track them to get the money back.

Friends/Relatives/Acquaintance in Ireland:

If you know somebody who is already living in Ireland, try to take their help or advise when looking for accommodations. If you are not able to view the property for any reason, ask that person if they could go and view the house on your behalf so that you are sure you are letting from the right person/agency.

Airbnb/Hostels:

If you are stuck and are not able to secure accommodation before moving to Ireland, don't worry, there are a lot of people in similar situation. Try and look for Airbnb's or hostels in Ireland before coming so that you can give yourself some time for searching accommodation. This option is slightly expensive than organizing a permanent accommodation but it does the job of taking that stress away. Usually budget hostels are about 20-25€ a night and Airbnb could be anywhere between 30-50€ a night and the costs do go down when you make a booking for longer duration.

PS: In Ireland, it is common to find fully furnished house, including furniture, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, oven, etc. Most of the landlords ask for one month deposit to begin the tenancy agreement with. Make sure you have the contract signed, this will help you in securing a house address proof which will be used for a lot of things, like opening a bank account will require address proof, getting Wifi, electricity, gas connection installed, etc. Also, this address proof will be used in Irish Naturalization (Passport change) if you are planning to stay in Ireland for long term.
